Trail medals do not behave like road medals
They arrive in wood, in slate, in cast metal on a length of rope. Half of them are heavier than anything a marathon hands out and almost none are the same size as each other. A hook rack designed around neat road discs gives up quickly.
This one is made only in the two wide sizes, because trail runners tend to arrive at the display stage with a box already full. The rail is continuous, so an odd-shaped medal on a thick cord hangs next to a standard ribbon without an argument.
Trail medals often hang on cord or leather rather than woven ribbon, which is thicker and does not slide. Space them slightly further apart than you would road medals and the rail takes the same number.
This medal hanger is produced in the widths below. If you are buying it as a gift, size on the collection they already have rather than on what looks right on the wall.
Size & capacity
| Size | Steel | 1 rail | 2 rails | 3 rails |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 60 x 11 cm | 3 mm | 21-30 | 38-55 | 55-75 |
| 75 x 11.5 cm | 3 mm | 31-45 | 55-80 | 75-110 |
Not sure which size?
Only the two wide sizes are cut for this design. If 75 cm looks like more wall than you need, it usually is not. This design is produced from 60 cm upwards — the cut-out detail doesn't hold at smaller widths.
Made from one sheet, not assembled from parts
The medal holder is laser-cut from a single piece of AISI 304 stainless steel, 3 mm thick depending on the width. Nothing welded on, nothing to come loose.
Medals hang on a continuous rail rather than individual hooks, so you're limited by the width of the bar and nothing else.
Fitting it to the wall
Comes with stainless standoffs, fixings and a paper drilling template. On plasterboard use proper anchors rather than the plugs supplied — a full display is heavier than it looks.
Once there is no space left
The proportions are drawn so that two units stacked or lined up look like one piece of furniture rather than an afterthought. The widest version holds up to 110 medals across three rails.
